I am the oldest of five siblings and a proud, first generation Irish-American born and raised in New York City. Every summer of my life, my family and I flew into Shannon Airport and traveled to County Mayo to visit our relatives. We loved spending time with our cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents, enjoyed the fields, stonewalls, and animals, belted out during sing-alongs, and adored the food. It was always obvious to us that Irish bread, dairy, meats, jams, tea, biscuits, chocolates, crisps, sweets, snacks, and even cereals are far superior to their Yankee counterparts. Each time we packed our bags and headed back to New York, we knew how much we would miss them.
In 2017, I started medical school at Yale in their MD PhD program. Due to the demand of the curriculum and my clinical responsibilities, I found myself with even less time than usual to travel to Ireland, visit family, and consume all of my favorite Irish treats. The goal of Blarney Box is to solve this problem. Why should you need to drop a fortune mailing packages across the Atlantic or physically travel to Ireland to experience some of its tiny joys?
I am very excited to mail out our first round of boxes this December. For now, we are offering small, medium, and large boxes filled with iconic chocolate bars and other treats. In the future, I plan to expand this to many of the other harder to obtain Irish food items in the States. Please reach out to me with comments, feedback, or questions by email or on any of our social media accounts, and enjoy some photos below of the big Irish family that made this all possible!
